This project is currently in-progress. The end goal is the publication of a book, co-written through interviews with various community members of New Haven. This is an exploration and investigation of how people foster instances of community in response to disruptive events such as urban renewal. Currently the work includes conducting interviews, spearheading youth workshops, and working with local organizations to better understand the social fabric of the city.
Attached are some of the photos of my forays into New Haven. They include mural painting at Possible Futures Bookstore, interviews with residents from Amistad Catholic Worker, coffee with the former mayor of New Haven, community meetings on the Goffe Street Armory, and a summer working with local youth at a community garden in Newhallville.
Not included are photography and urban renewal workshops with students from High School in The Community, conversations with the founder of the Humphrey Street Community Park, and other core community leaders of the city.
